Bollywood's first superstar Rajesh Khanna fondly called 'Kaka' by his fans breathed his last on July 18 at his residence in Mumbai. He was 69. He is survived by his separated wife Dimple Kapadia and two daughters Twinkle and Rinke. Film actor Akshay Kumar was his son-in-law.
The actor was admitted to Mumbai's Lilavati hospital just last week following reports of low blood pressure but was discharged on Tuesday and was at his Mumbai residence since then.
Earlier on June 24, he was admitted to a hospital following kidney problems.Kaka has been battling health issues since April 1, was visited by the Bollywood fraternity while he was in hospital.
Khanna was born in Amritsar on 29 December 1942. He was adopted and raised by foster parents who were relatives of his biological parents. Khanna lived in Thakurdwar near Girgaon. Khanna attended St. Sebastian’s Goan High School in Girgaum,
He appeared in 163 feature films of which 128 as the lead protagonist including 106 as the solo lead hero films and 22 two hero projects and did 17 short films.He made his debut in 1966 with Aakhri Khat and rose to prominence with his performances in films like Raaz, Baharon Ke Sapne, Ittefaq and Aradhana.
Rajesh Khanna had 15 consecutive solo superhits between 1969 to 1971, which is still an unbroken record in Indian film history. In calculation of the 15 films, 2 hero films like Maryada,Andaz and films with box office result as hits were excluded -Mere Jeevan Saathi, Choti Bahu and Shehzada.
